  Questions For Those That Entered the Armed Forces After Practicing JWism

  with having so many close to me serve in the armed forces, it only helps me appreciate even more those that serve in them.

  i've had 7 uncles and a grandfather serve in the u.s. army, another grandfather in the u.s. navy, my late brother-in-law served for 6 years in the air force right on up to his death earlier this year, and my father also served in the air force in his pre-jw days.. even while being a very devout jw, i still had the utmost respect and appreciation for those serving.

  from what i understand after chatting with many of you is that some among us on jwd have entered the military after leaving the religion.

  It's not the military but, my husband is realizing his secret lifelong dream of becoming a police officer, attending an academy locally. He is not working, I am supporting us both along with some new debt as a result of school, it is a sacrifice for both of us. Interestingly, anti-terrorism training is a big (and relatively new) part of his training.

  Over 2 years ago as we were just on our way into our 'fade', I told my parents that my husband wanted to be an officer, and they emailed back to me, 'oh no! he'll be part of the world that will persecute us, try to stop us from preaching and throw us into prison'

  did you ever feel that way when you were in "the truth"?

  i hated that people tried to overstep the normal boundaries humans have with strangers and get all "brotherly and encouraging".

  when we changed congregations, i found it so annoying when people we barely knew tried to act as if we were best friends.

  Younglove1999, your best friend sounds like one of ours who lived 5 doors down from us. We were all friends at first. Same thing: our garage door would open, he walk on down. We'd pull into the drive and he'd call. We'd miss a meeting and he'd call at 10pm (when he got home) or drop in if a light was on. Near the end of him we'd have 4-5 voice messages some days from him (he thought my cel # was our home #).

  He moved way back east.

  My Mom's Reaction On The Phone...Please Help Me Understand

  after i wrote my parents a 10-page letter going into detail about all of the problems with the watchtower, along with documented evidence of false prophecies/predictions, flip-flops in doctrine, as well as many good reasoning points, she put up some very strong defenses over the phone.

  at first she said that she read the letter.

  then when we got on a topic that was covered in the letter, and i could see that she didn't comprehend the point that i was making, i would ask her, "are you sure you read the letter?

  She behaved according to the rules, and the rules state that when someone challenges their beliefs, they:

  1) Challenge your words, 2) challenge your source and 3) attack you personally. Sounds like she went right for #3.

  Consider these rules anytime you confront a JW concerning their beliefs.

  after the sunday culttower study is over, everyone will be expected to preach because the end is soooooooo close!.

  Now boys, let's not squabble. It's right up their alley to keep trimming expenses and time and blah blah blah.

  This I know, if a CO said it to a lowly seester it's likely to happen within a a year or 2. It's not set in stone so it was ok to say it to a woman. Who'd believe a woman?

  do you have someone you can truly rely on???

  is there someone in your life who you know will be there when you really need them without a shadow of a doubt???

  as much as i hope my girlfriends or whoever else will care about me and be there when i really need them, no one consistently has been, except for him, time and time again.

  there are many very good reasons why i'm not with him anymore... but the fact that he cares more than anyone else is fairly persuasive... i don't want to go back to him, but what does one do when everyone else is too busy to care???

  btw that's an interesting relationship you have there. Truly good friends are somewhat rare.

  one of my classics was because the bethel printing room was so clean then it must be jehovah's organization.. now i realize, of course, that most businesses keep their operations equally clean.. doh!.

  I believed that the Governing Body lived by the vow of poverty that other members of Bethel took, I believed that their selfless poor lives were part of what made it the truth.

  To please Jahoohoo I believed that I must push myself harder AND I must never say NO to a request for assistance, regardless of how tired or how stupid a situation. . .because I was stronger than others I could bear more burden. If I held back I was no better than the world.

  Assistance requested before someone ends up spending mucho $$$$!

  hi everyone... i have a "hypothetical" situation... here's the issue: i have an "ex" (baptised but no longer involved with the jws)... we got divorced legally, but not for "scriptual" reasons (not because of adultery) said ex has now moved away but it has been found out that they are living with a member of the opposite sex.

  same mailing address, single family home, etc.

  is this enough grounds for disfellowshipping?

  In print they say witnesses are required. If you wanted to call them to explain what the situation is, they might 'investigate'.
